Yarn acquisition & such

So while I was off enjoying the Heartland Knitting Retreat something else was cooking here at home. The owner of the yarn shop where I taught knitting (Kool Knits) decided to close her doors and now I find myself out of a job. On the plus side…there are many bargains to be had for all you fiber hungry knitters out there…on the flip side…I need to find a quality activity to occupy myself with. I love teaching knitting and I hope that I can find a way to continue doing that out of my home if not, I think I would like to finally build up steam and open an etsy shop with my custom sewn knitting bags and needle cases.

The reality is that Naperville no longer has a nice yarn shop to frequent…which hampers my weekly yarn acquisition opportunities. This makes two yarn shops in the downtown Naperville area that have closed within the last few years. Luckily my favorite yarn shop, Wool & Co., is not in danger of closing anytime soon but it’s in Geneva and that is a 40 minute drive away for me without traffic. Knitche is a lovely local shop and it’s located in Downers Grove which is about the same driving distance as Kool Knits was for me. The problem is that I have Wool & Co tastes with Knitche as a neighbor. What’s a saddened knitter to do? Perhaps I should take up spinning.

This is the pretty spindle I bought from Toni at the retreat and these are the other fiber treats I bought this past weekend. the Koigu and KSH are from Wool & Co. and the STR, the angora and the pattern are from The Fold.

The truth of the matter is I probably shouldn’t be shopping anywhere until I tame my stash beast, it’s gotten much too large for it’s britches and I have so many lovely fibers to keep me company during this dark time.
