Happy 4th!
There is no denying that we are really enjoying berry season right now. Strawberries are so yummy and sweet, they are nature’s candy! So how do you quickly hull a big batch of berries without wasting any of that sweet berry goodness. Well I’d like to share my preferred method for hulling strawberries. Let’s begin by washing your berries in cool water and then grab a nice sturdy straw and let’s get poppin.
It is so easy to pop off those green tops with a drinking straw. I prefer to use nice sturdy ones like from restaurants like Egg Harbor, McDonald’s or Steak ‘n Shake. I rarely leave a straw on the table at one of these places.
Start from the pointy end at the bottom of the berry and run the straw up through the center of the berry and the leafy green top simply just pops off! It’s that simple.
Step one, position straw at the base of the berry
Step two, quickly and firmly run the straw right up the center and pop that top!
There isn't any real waste really just some of that pithy center and the leafy greens
You can see right through the berry.
You'll accumulate stumps as you go but they feed right through the end of the straw. That is if you haven't chosen a bendable straw!
Look at all these beautiful berries!
And this is all the waste, pretty much the entire strawberry has been preserved with very little lost.
So there you have it, a very easy and fun way to hull those strawberries! Enjoy!
