A Very Merry Christmas…

We had a lovely Christmas…very relaxing and peaceful, with too much good food and plenty of quality time. Here is Obi, relaxing while loving his new bear and watching TV with Ty. Mr. Biggs got a couple of new tennis balls and a squeaky plush bunny that he carries all about the house. I love finding “life-size” toys for the pups although that would have been pretty much impossible to do with Obi’s bear.
I started a new project on Christmas Eve and finished it three days later. It’s the Flower Basket Shawl, originally printed in IK but I used the multi gauge pattern leaflet from Fiber Trends and the pattern writing genius of Evelyn Clark, I just love her stuff. Here I used 2 skeins of one of my very favorite yarns, Silky Wool from Elsebeth Lavold in the 14-Olive shade. This yarn and pattern are so lovely I found it really hard to put down. I was able to complete 7 repeats of the main pattern before switching to the last two charts making this more of a small shawl rather than the shoulder scarf. I have just a couple of yards of yarn left over. I am very happy with the end result and would love to knit another one.

I have been thinking of posting one of those year end UFO blog sightings but I think I will refrain for doing so. I remember last year after posting one that a blogging friend Lucia mentioned on how “common” a posting in the blogland that it is and I decided this year that I would rather post “uncommonly good things” like a Keebler elf. Besides the number of unfinished items I have is much smaller this year and sadly some of them are the same ones as last year so I’d rather not embarrass myself on purpose.
I will be thinking about renewing some New Year’s knitting resolutions such as the continuation of the yarn diet. I had an incredibly successful year of non stashing. I did buy a few things around mid-year but nothing substantial. The fiber I bought was extremely special and was purchased in very limited quantities.
I wish you all safe and sane New Year’s celebrations. I will be staking out my spot for the Annual Tournament of Roses Parade again this year but once again I will not have to leave the comforts of home. Somehow I really miss that sleeping out on the street in Pasadena, California with all the crazy people, noise and cars going all night long just to watch the parade in the morning and convince one the the float riders to toss out a rose. I love the smell of roses in the morning…smells like victory.
