The tassel is worth the hassle.
Sometimes I forget what it is that I don’t enjoy about knitting sweaters….it’s all those nasty ends to weave it. I had an easy time of seaming thanks to those Knit Klips. I highly recommend them to all.
I made some changes to the pattern as I went along. I used a three needle bind off for the shoulder seams and the back of the hood. Both instances I used the public side of the garment so I could keep the garter stitch looking consistent. The pattern had directions to cast off then seam and that just didn’t make much sense to me, the TNB was a much better solution. For the tassel, I made a twisted cord that I used to tie off and knot at the top of the tassel. Then I wrapped about 1/2 inch from the top to secure the tassel from coming apart. The pattern didn’t ask for the second tie off and the directions called for making a single crocheted chain to attach the tassel to the point of the hood. I think the twisted cord gives the sweater a much more finished look.
Lastly I finished the sweater off with a couple of cute kitty buttons. Dare I say that these buttons are vintage…? They are leftover from a top I sewed in junior high apparently I was into cats… Buttons are like the cherry on top of a sundae, they complete the look.
I think it turned out pretty cute. I hope the baby enjoys wearing it.
