Dog Gone It!

As circumstances would have it…my husband has become my constant shadow.  He seems to find me no matter where I am or what I am doing, he has even taken to driving me to and from work.  I am used to a bit more space but….I love him so what’s a girl to do?

After dropping me off at work this morning he set about his daily to do list items and then set off to pick me up as my shift was ending…here’s where the story goes awry.  My dog loving man sees a Westie in  distress and stops to help the poor pup.  There is a FedEx truck and a UPS truck stopped on either side of the street and a woman speeding past both oblivious to the sweet snow white Westie in the street so my husband leaps from the truck and places himself in the path of the oncoming car and holds up his stop signal and scoops up the Westie whisking him to safety.

The Westie is freezing and seems to have been wandering for awhile so Mike pops him in the truck and heads toward his designated pick-up…me.  But…on the way a patch of ice and a hurrying husband rear ends another driver in a smaller truck and causes a wreck…as if the poor Westie hasn’t been through enough already today.

I get a frantic call which seemed to indicate that my truck may or may not have sustained major injury so I set off on foot toward the intersection trudging through ice and snow I walk 1.42 miles and see my husband with a snow white pup in his arms wrapped in a towel provided by the man he rear-ended and a friendly police officer who just happens to know and really like my boss at work.  My husband gets a ticket, hopefully the man will have his truck repaired and then we waited for animal control.

The animal control officer took the Westie and popped him into her front seat.  This was the best behaved Westie I have ever seen.  He was so still and calm in a stranger’s arms as he shivered from the cold and then sat contently in the seat of the animal control van.  We do not need a third Westie in the house but we were willing to take him if he remained unclaimed so we asked to be kept in the loop until the pup was reunited with his loved ones.

As it turns out…the Westie is elderly…and deaf….and named TREVOR!  That’s my youngest son’s name… so another Trevor is rescued from harm due to a potential car disaster, my truck is now in need of auto rhinoplasty but no one is injured and the Westie is again safe at home.  Julie at Animal Control sent us a picture of Trevor… isn’t he a sweetheart?!
