Oh Baby!

So what was in the water 9 months ago?  Have you noticed…there are tons of babies being born right now…neighbors, co-workers, friends, phew…I’m so glad I drink filtered water :)  I’ve been busy knitting for them though.  I still have a couple to knit but here’s two lovely little bits.

Angora Booties

Angora Booties

These are from LMKG and are designed to be knit from angora…however I had a lovely little yarn in my stash named Nylgoria which turned out to be a perfect substitute.  They really are a sweet little knit, I love the construction.  They are double knit on two needles, then separated and eventually knit in the round and best of all no sewing!    I’ll be knitting more of these in the future. This next item was a real trial in patience.

The pattern is a freebie from the LB site and it states that you can make the smallest two sizes with only two skeins of the Cashmere Blend which I had on hand…but that is a total misprint..it has to be.  I began with the back in light blue and had very little left over so I decided to try and recover from a potential disaster and knit the left side and sleeve with pink.  I held my breath as I had less than a couple of feet left over for sewing and seaming.  So basically it takes every little last bit of three skeins to knit the smallest size.  I did make a few modifications to the pattern but nothing that would have required more yarn.  I held the back shoulder stitches on stitch holders until the fronts were knit and then used a three needle bind off for the shoulder seams, it makes it so professional looking.  Then for the tie closures I picked up and knit  3 stitch I-cords instead of the garter stitch cast on and cast off then sew in place ties in the pattern.  I like the look of the I-cords so much better again so professional looking.

I’d easily make this sweater again.  It’s very cute and I think that it’s a versatile piece as far as fitting a baby for a couple of seasons, not just a couple of months.  Too sweet.

I am still working on the crocheted shawl.  I find that it’s harder than I thought to  decide which color to make each row.  I must have ripped out the row I am currently stuck on at least twice.  I just can’t decide which color should follow the turquiose.  I’ll figure it out soon I’m sure.

Enjoy the lovely spring weather and Happy Easter to you!
