Test Drive
A while back I wrote a post titled Scarf Stories and part of it was about how I really wasn’t happy with some needles I had purchased. They were needles from Laurel Hill. Imagine my surprise when a representative from Laurel Hill contacted me this July, saying she had come across my post and asked me if I’d like to try the needles again. She said that the needles have been somewhat improved and she hoped to change my mind about them by sending me another pair to try. Well Kelli, you were right and you have definitely changed my opinion.
I am a tried and true bamboo and wooden needle user, I’ve never warmed up to using metal straights but the bamboo were nice on the hands and much easier to find than those black walnut Brittany’s. Before the closing of Kool Knits, I snagged a pair of the new on the market Laurel Hill needles, mostly because they were pretty but I later found out that they were poor performers, having splintered near the tip and now causing snagging as I knit not only there but also up when the size and logo were stamped. Enter the new and improved Laurel Hill’s…
These needles are smooth, the tips are a perfect blend of pointed and round. The shaft is smooth as silk and the snagging is a thing of the past. I test drove them on a particularly nasty yarn and they performed beautifully. Let’s compare shall we?
First up the nasty yarn Art Deco by Bouton D’Or…(this scarf story is a post for another day)

This is a shot of the old Laurel Hill’s…see the nasty split near the tip of the needles..both needles have it especially the top one.

Enter the new and improved Laurel Hill’s, Aren’t they pretty?!

Now check out the tips! They are spectacular! A real pleasure to use.

Even with the use of the ghastly yarn above, these needles made knitting with it easy…even pleasurable. Now check out the logo and size imprints, the old needles below had a deep and rough stamp that caught and snagged the yarn it came in contact with.

The new needles? NOT…the imprint is as smooth and silky feeling as the rest of the needle.

I loved knitting with these needles even with that ghastly yarn, imagine how great the knitting experience will be with luxury yarn. I can’t wait to get something back on these new Laurel Hill needles, they have now become my favorites. The points are perfect, they are smooth and light weight not to mention pretty. I’ve love to say that I’m replacing all my other needles with Laurel Hill’s needles but that seems really impractical so let me just say that I will always look forward to reaquainting my fingers with the best needles in my vase.
Thank you Kelli for the test drive, I’ll treasure these new and improved Laurel Hill needles!
