Scarf stories…

This is my donation to the Red Scarf Project. I actually knit it a while ago letting it take up residence at Kool Knits where it was hanging up as a sample. It’s from an old freebie pattern that they used to have available on the Plymouth website and have since made it available as a leaflet for purchase at your LYS. The new pattern includes a matching hat and the yarn is Encore Worsted. Because you never know if someone will really like your hand knits and I didn’t want the recipient to feel cheated if this was the case I enclosed a VISA gift card as a bonus.

This is one of the longest scarves I have ever knit…it lays 7′6″ long. I just didn’t want to waste a single inch of the yarn because it is special to me. It’s from Briar Rose, a 50% silk and 50% merino blend…very textural so the pattern I chose made the most of the fiber. I used two skeins and have no clue what the yardage was or the name because I bought the yarn and started this in Oct 2005 at the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Fest. The pattern I used is posted below…Enjoy!
Cast on 27 sts using US 7 straight needles and proceeded as follows:

Row 1: Work a K3, P3 rib.

Row 2: Work a P1, K1 rib.

Repeat these two rows until desired length ending with a row 1 and cast off in K3, P3 pattern. Voila.

BTW I hated the Laurel Hill needles I used…making this a very long and rather unpleasant knit. The needle tips are way too pointy and one of the needles actually splintered off at the tip making them even more unpleasant to use. They are pretty needles but in my opinion they are just not worth the pennies. I am very happy to have this project completed and off these needles.

One of my resolutions for 2007 is that I am striving to have only one or two knitting projects running at any given point in time. I have a bit of a backlog and am trying to mix knitting something new with something already on the needles…it may actually take me until the end of the year to accomplish this goal.
In other news Obi is finally doing much better after a trip to the vet on Saturday. He quite literally was as sick as a dog after munching on some mysterious backyard buffet item and had a quite severe case of intestinal distress. I am happy to say I have now had two consecutive nights of uninterrupted sleep and Obi is happily feasting on boiled beef and rice as well as finishing up his 7 days of medication. Thank heavens Mr. Biggs has better taste than his older brother, this reminds me of that movie Drop Dead Gorgeous where the beauty contestants come down with salmonella poisoning from improperly handled seafood. LOL

Cute scarves! Was the Briar Rose yarn worsted weight? Glad to hear Obi is over the urps!

I am working with Laurel Hill to start a blog and do some outreach to the knitting community. In my research, I came across this post. You do beautiful work! I was sorry to hear that you hated our needles, though!

I talked to Laurel Hill and the owner said they have refined the product to eliminate the splintering problem and I’d love to send you a pair or two to try out and see if we can change your mind.

You can visit our online distributor http://www.knittingstuff.net and let me know which needles you’d like to try and I will ship them to you in the next week.
