Wow What a Skein!
If you ever get a chance to buy some of Interlacement’s Oregon Worsted yarn….DO IT! This yarn is going in my Yarn Hall Of Fame. I’ve made Evelyn Clark’s Sand Dollar shawl with it last Christmas for my mom and I had a hefty skein leftover that I just knit up my last FO of 2009…..drumroll please….I bring you …. The Journey Hat!
The Journey Hat
Isn’t it pretty?!?! It totally goes with my winter coat too! I have enough yarn (about 60 yards maybe) leftover for something but I want to savor the remaining skein’s possibilities. I really love this yarn.
Okay, now I bring you my didn’t quite make it in time for Christmas gifts but they will still be loved by my very forgiving friends Terry and Sue.
Terry's Pedicure Socks
Sue's Replacement Hat
Terry tried to knit these little lovelies for herself a few times with unsatisfying results so I decided to whip them up to make her winter pedicures dazzle. The pattern is free from Patons and the yarn if from the stash Regia’s Stretch Sock yarn. Now the hat for Sue is a replacement. I knit her one from Christmas a few years back but she almost immediately lost the other hat in a skirmish with her eldest daughter who claimed it was perfect for HER new winter coat. I vaguely remember my mom losing a few items to me but I would have never had the gaul to snag a handmade item from her… I mean some things are just taboo…at least they should be. Ever since that time I have seen Sue wear hats that are just not up to my hat standards. I have never been so happy that I over bought on a yarn as I am with this one…it’s very discontinued now and perfect for a quick knit hat. The yarn and pattern are from Skacel circa 2002.
So today I looked back at all I was able to accomplish knitting wise this past year and I came up with this score card of what and where the items went to. These are the FO’s only.
5 Knit Scarves: One each to Monica, Liz, San, my MIL and one to my youngest son
5 Pairs of Socks: One each to my mom, Rashmi, Terry and two for me.
6 Hats: One each to my older brother, Sue, Sue’s grandson, me and two for Mary.
3 Baby Gifts: One blanket to Sue’s grandson, baby booties for Carol’s grandson and a sweater for Pippa.
2 Washcloths: One each for San and Karen.
1 Lovely Shawl for my mom.
1 Pair Fingerless Mitts for Rashmi.
And lastly
1 Cupcake for Carol.
I apparently didn’t keep much for myself which is fine but I also didn’t scratch much off my queue either. If I am to have a major reduction in stash in 2010 I am going to have to become much more ambitious in my knitting endeavours.
Happy New Year to All!
