My Elann Sample Skein Subscription

A few of years ago…my mom gave me an Elann Sample Skein subscription as a Christmas gift. I was so excited when the first installment arrived…the tiny skeins were all in shades of off white and I recall thinking that I could knit a long ecru scarf with my year’s worth of samples…until the February installment arrived and all the samples were in shades of blue. As my padded envelope arrived each month it was clear that a scarf still could indeed be knit with the samples but it would end up looking very patchwork and I am good with that. I decided to wait until my subscription ran out before beginning the project so I could play with all the colors and figure out the proper placement. I am actually just closing my eyes and pulling a skein out of the bag when one color runs out so the scarf is being knit totally random.

These are the samples in waiting…I will use all of them except that one hairy one at the top…it’s such a nasty shade of booger green that it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever that I must and will exclude it from my scarf. I am knitting this scarf to use in a Judith Swartz “Crochet for Knitters” class I am taking through the WCKG this month. I had contacted Judith as an instructor for my retreat this past December and this was the class I had requested that she teach. I was disappointed when her personal schedule conflicted with the retreat dates. Happily she apparently liked my class idea and is now taking it on the road. The scarf is progressing quickly so I am sure it will be ready in time. I also have to either find or knit up some squares for use in the class too…but I can’t quite seem to locate my class supply list….

The yarn looks more Linda Blair vomit green in the picture; maybe it’s the light. Clever scarf though!

    How descriptive…………..booger green……..that evokes a visual that I’d just as soon avoid…
    Thanks!

in fact, you should do away with that random yarn of ugliness immediately with a warning on the label “This yarn was used for blog photo only.”
